Outreach
A church family who reach out to others, both corporately and individually outside of the congregational setting, to bring them into relationship with Jesus Christ, to teach them the basic principles of the Kingdom of God, and to then release them to go and do likewise for others.
Alpha
This ‘Introduction to Christianity’ course is run periodically in different home groups. It is an ideal opportunity to invite friends and family members to an informal, relaxed atmosphere where they can find out about Christianity.
Marriage Course
Every few months we run a marriage course at our church. The course focuses on the aspect of communication. It has proved to be of huge encouragement and support to both married and engaged couples.
Informal Settlements
Members of our church are active in several informal settlements and squatter camps around the Johannesburg area. This activity is directed towards supporting the poor and needy people in these communities, especially members of the churches in that environment. This support includes a host of activities ranging from spiritual needs (preaching, teaching and evangelism) through to physical help in the form of food, clothing and financial support. The main focus area is in Diepsloot, an informal settlement about 15km from the Village Church.
Riversands Primary School
Every Tuesday during school term, people from our congregation visit the Riversands Primary School to share the Word of God and to minister to the needs of the children. Many of the children from the school are sponsored by the church to attend annual leadership training camps. We also regularly run and are involved with various practical projects at the school.
Puppetry
Our puppetry teams’ aim is to share the Gospel with non-believing children through the various fun mediums of puppetry including shadow, giant, rod-arm and wordless puppetry. We perform puppet shows to reach and present the gospel, not to entertain Christians. This is a ministry focussed specifically on reaching the lost.
Leadership Training
We have put together a 4 day training course to equip church leaders with the tools they need to be effective in their ministries. It includes topics such as Expository Preaching, Servant Leadership, Healthy Church Models, Church Financial Administration, and Discipleship, amongst many others. We have presented this course in Diepsloot, Soweto, DRC, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
Outreach Trips
Yearly we reach out on mission trips into various areas surrounding South Africa, in which we seek to support, encourage and motivate local churches, both spiritually and practically. Normally we go as a large team of people, and are on mission for about 10 days. Our focus has primarily been within the Gaza province in Mozambique, where we have developed a fantastic working relationship with the local pastors.
Parent Education
One of our core beliefs is that the primary responsibility for the spiritual upbringing of the child belongs to the parents. We as a church will do everything we can in a support capacity to assist parents in this difficult and eternally significant task. We run several different courses and programmes in line with this belief.
Prison Ministry
Lotsha Ministry Trust (set up and run by members of our church family) is a national network facilitator, bringing together organisations working in the prisons and/or caring for ex-offenders. Evangelistic programs from uKuphula iKetanga are used locally and internationally. These Christian foundational programs include basic life skills and are approved by Correctional Services. Other courses are also available.
Heartreach
This organisation seeks to educate youth in sexual abstinence, life choices and the responsibilities and consequences of unplanned pregnancies etc. Members of our congregation assist this ministry by helping share these biblical principles with pupils in schools in Gauteng and the surrounding areas.
